What kind of stainless steel do we use?

Legacy stainless steel sinks are created with 304 Series Stainless Steel. 304 Series or “surgical grade” stainless steel is non-porous, hygienic, rust-free and extremely durable. This premium grade of stainless steel is considered to be the best formulation for residential sink manufacturing.

What does the gauge of the stainless steel mean?

The gauge is the thickness of the stainless steel. An easy rule of thumb is, the lower the number of the gauge, the thicker and better the stainless steel. Therefore, 18 gauge is better than 20 gauge. Most under mount sinks are 18 gauge, with the top mount sinks sinks, which are 24/22/20/18 gauge selectable (however, still an excellent gauge!)

What does chrome-nickel content mean?

Chrome-Nickel content refers to the percentage of chrome and nickel in the stainless steel. Chrome gives the stainless steel its luster & durability, while the nickel is for the hardness & strength. 18/10 Stainless Steel means it contains 18% Chromium or Chrome and 10% Nickel. A sink with an 18/10 chrome-nickel content is considered to be an excellent grade, due to its corrosive resistance and greater durability.

What kind of finish do stainless steel sinks have?

Most Legacy stainless steel sinks have what is called a brush finish. This elegant finish creates an enduring, easy-to-clean luster that is impervious to water stains and calcium deposits.

What kind of undercoating is applied on Stainless Steel sinks?

Sound deadening pads are installed on all Platinum Series models to eliminate unwanted sounds, such as the garbage disposal growl. On our under mount sink models, a deluxe undercoating is applied, eliminating condensation, retaining water temperature and providing maximum sound absorption.

How do I clean my stainless steel sink to keep it looking great?

GENERAL CARE & CLEANING:
After every use, rinse thoroughly, then wipe the sink dry with a clean soft cloth. Wiping is the key; this will inhibit water spotting and mineral deposits in severe hard water conditions.

BLANCOCLEAN, BAR KEEPERS FRIEND, FLITZ, GORDON'S MIRACLE SHINE and/or SHINEY SINKS PLUS are products available in hardware and grocery stores that can be used every day to protect, polish and clean your stainless steel sink.

WHAT NOT TO DO:
Do not use any abrasive cleaners such as scrub pads or Steel Wool, as these products will dull and tarnish the finish. Don't let household cleaning agents, such as bleach, sit in your sink for a long period of time as this may ruin the finish of your sink.

SURFACE RUST & STAINS:
Stainless steel does not rust.

GORDON'S MIRACLE SHINE, FLITZ & BAR KEEPERS FRIEND are all effective at removing "surface" residue such as: tarnish, rust, lime deposits & hard water stains. Follow the directions on the bottle.

SCRATCHES:
Scratches are inevitable in any sink material, including stainless steel. Over time, these scratches will become uniform with the sink's grain.

In regards to stainless steel, most minor scratches can be softened with a Scotch Brite (soft scour) pad, accompanied with a deep cleansing agent such as BAR KEEPERS FRIEND, COMET, ETC. Wet pad, apply cleansing agent, rub vigorously with the "grain" or finish of the sink (NOTE: DO NOT JUST RUB AGAINST THE GRAIN OR IN ONE AREA. YOU MUST RUB ACROSS THE ENTIRE SURFACE), then rinse thoroughly.

For severe scratches, secure a pumice rubbing compound from a hardware store, and follow the directions on the package. Note: Once the sink's finish has been restored to your satisfaction, we recommends the purchase of a customized sink grid to protect the bowl's
